DORAH LYDIA SITOLE

Dorah is a well-known South African chef and cooking personality. She has written and co-authored many books and been the editor of True Love magazine. Despite not starting off her career as a chef, her love for food and her passion for cooking took off when she joined the Canned Food Advisory Service, and then True Love magazine as Food Editor.

She has written three cookbooks, including the classic – Cooking from Cape to Cairo, co-authored two recipe books and was featured in Food Gurus Uncovered by Gwynne Conlyn as one of South Africa’s top chefs. Lydia was awarded the inaugural South African Chefs Association Award for contributing to the country’s hospitality industry as well as the prestigious Galliova award for food writers and stylists. She now serves as a one of the Galliova Awards judges.

Dorah has cooked internationally representing South Africa in Tokyo, Memphis Tennessee and in Rome (where she cooked for former president Thabo Mbeki and his entourage of SA’s business leaders).

Having “retired”, Dorah is now a freelance food writer, recipe developer and food stylist, which is what she loves doing the most. She also presents cooking shows on TV and hosts cooking demonstrations and workshops. She was part of the editorial committee for the Great South African Cook Book – compiled in honour of the late Nelson Mandela, the proceeds of which went to the Mandela’s Children’s Foundation. She recently featured in a book as one of 67 of the country’s top chefs.
